About
Growing up, I was exposed to a lot of Latin music, particularly older material by names like Leo Dan, Camilo Sesto, and Rocio Durcal. I also listened to a bunch of Wee Sing books that came with cassettes and may or may not have played a role in my particular preference for guilty pop music.
The first album I ever got was C+C Music Factory – Gonna Make You Sweat on cassette. The first CDs I ever owned were Pearl Jam – Ten and R.E.M. – Automatic for the People. It was when CDs came around that I started to really build my collection that ended up consisting of alternative music, several one hit wonders and lots of pop towards the end of the nineties. The first album with a Parental Advisory sticker I got was Warren G – Regulate…G Funk Era. It is sad but painfully true.
I studied Journalism before I ended up switching to and obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Interactive Media Design with the goal of someday creating a successful entertainment and pop culture webzine. At the end of the day I still have a soft spot for journalism, music journalism anyway.
From talented artists like Bjork and Prince to guilty pleasures like Milli Vanilli, Lou Bega or The Divinyls, I like to think that even the most cringe inducing of tunes have their own merit, hence the genre hopping. When life becomes a little too unmanageable, there’s nothing like blasting a little Haddaway or Rob Zombie. Music is the antidote for just about any situation.
